The Dream is Alive

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Plano ISD community hosted the 39th Annual MLK Celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This annual celebration showcased student talent and leadership in our schools and community. Guest Speaker: LaShon Ross, Deputy City Manager, City of Plano.

LaShon Ross, Deputy City Manager, City of Plano

Over her 37-year career, LaShon has worked as HR Director, Deputy City Manager and HR Consultant. After retiring from Municipal Government in 2016; working independently as a Professional Development Facilitator; and serving in interim HR roles with 3 municipalities, she returned to the City of Plano as Director of HR/Risk Management in 2022 and moved back into the Deputy City Manager role in 2022. She is committed to supporting personal and professional growth and maintains community engagement through board appointments, mentorships, and other volunteer opportunities.

LaShon particularly enjoys her roles as mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.

All submissions for the 2026 MLK Art Contest: The Dream is Alive! will be on display at the Robinson Fine Arts Center in the Art Gallery.

Monday - Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:00PM

The gallery will be open during all other events at the Robinson Fine Arts Center.

This award recognizes community members, staff and students who have shown leadership and commitment in fostering and promoting harmony, respect, acceptance and understanding among the beautiful cultures within our community.
